Matej Krén’s book dwellings

kren-s

Matej Krén‘s work is remarkable for its exceptional scope. In recent years his distinctive approach to sculpture, object, installation, drawing, print, painting, action art, film, music, sound and word has attracted attention at many prestigious international art shows.
His work not only touches on very contemporary problems, such as erasing the boundaries between reality and fiction, memory and the present, but also on classic themes in art – the relation between inner and outer, the part and the whole. Typical of his work is a searching for a complexity of content expressed in a monumental and comprehensible language.

Kimsooja: To Breathe

To Breathe / Respirar. Palacio de Cristal. Parque del Retiro. Madrid.

To Breathe - A Mirror Woman, 2006, site specific installation at Palacio de Cristal, Parque del Retiro, Madrid. Courtesy: Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid

Kimsooja (Taegu. Korea, 1957) has dedicated her long, intense artistic career to developing her own personal vision of the world through the use of installations, performances, photography, videos and site-specific projects. Her obvious singularity has tempted some to seek out links with certain Eastern philosophical and artistic traditions, but her core material is reality itself. Her upbringing and life experience have helped shape her thinking into a unique blend where Christianity and Western philosophy is intimately entwined with Zen Buddhism, Confucianism, Shamanism and Tao.

Etienne Bossut’s design casting

"Laocoon" from the show at Rodin Museum, Paris

For the exhibition "Laocoon(s)" at the Rodin Museum, Paris in 2007, Etienne Bossut presented works produced from a series of casts of the chair "Orgone" designed by Marc Newson.

At this edition of FIAC Paris, at the gallery Chez Valentin our attention was caught by work of french artist Etienne Bossut.

Since the 80s, Etienne Bossut manufactures “images-objects”. Central to his work is an ancient production method of casting, but reformulated and moved from a simple manufacturing process, the technique becomes essential here, support of a more comprehensive reflection on art and sculpture in general.

Cans, cars and all kind of objects taken from daily life and also from the world of art and design are cast in resin, faithful but not quite identical copies.

Pertti Kekarainen – Photographs from the series TILA

TILA (out), 2009 195 x 127,5 cm c-print, Diasec edition 5

TILA (out), 2009 195 x 127,5 cm c-print, Diasec edition 5

PERTTI KEKARAINEN‘s works are characterized by the multi-interpretative nature of space. He combines his photographs with local elements of colour that sometimes appear to conform to the space presented in the piece and are sometimes contrary to it. These features create tension and a slightly surreal atmosphere. In terms of atmosphere, these works approach painting, its ability to create illusions of space and visual ambiguity.

Yinka Shonibare MBE is a UK-based Nigerian artist. Shonibare’s artwork explores contemporary African identity and its relationship to European colonialism through painting, sculpture, installation, and moving image. Shonibare is best known for his work with visual symbols, especially the richly patterned Dutch wax fabric produced in Europe for a West African market that he uses in a wide range of applications. His tableaux of headless mannequins costumed in this fabric evoke themes of history and its legacy for future generations. Through these works he explores the complex web of interactions, both economic and racial, that reveal inequalities between the dominant and colonized cultures of Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Jacob Dahlgren is a Swedish painter, sculptor, and conceptual artist who works to a large extent with unconventional materials. The artist finds abstraction in everyday objects, which he employs to create dynamic interactive installations and performances. When arranged, the individual objects lose their intended function, their original value, and become part of something completely new. Along with experimenting with such artistic styles of the twentieth century as Constructivism, Minimal Art, and Pop Art, Dahlgren also quotes from the Op Art movement. A common theme for all the works is how art and our everyday life are intertwined.

The Large Carriage

THE LARGE CARRIAGE

Insolently violet, The Large Carriage is displayed in the court of honor.  Here, its familiar form is deformed by a shock wave, a genuine, dazzling trajectory placed on those very cobblestones. In an acceleration, this strange horse-drawn carriage plays on references to photographical analyses of movement done at the end of the 19th century by Marey and Muybridge. As the grand siècle (17th century) rubs shoulders with modernity, the gallop metamorphosizes into a colored and optical force.

Commissioned work by the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication)
